Some free SEO tips for you

Without giving away too many trade secrets here are some tips when planning and writing the content for your site. There are hundreds of factors that will determine your rankings, so this is by no means a complete list, but they cover some of the most well known issues to be considered.

  • Think what phrases you would like to be found on searches for. Think in phrases rather than single words, e.g. " website designers in london " , rather than all phrases with the words " designers " , " london " and " websites. This is because, " website designers in london " will give different search results to "web designers london".
  • We advise to only target a limited number of phrases on the site, approximately 1 per page. This is because competition is so great for each phrase, it is best to be seen as an expert by the engine on fewer phrases. We generally advise no more than 10 targeted phrases for most sites initially.
  • As users rarely go past the 1st page of results, we think it is better to be on the 1st page of results for a niche phrase like " website designers in london " rather than on the 3rd page of a common, more competitive phrase like " website designers ".
  • Domains: when choosing a domain, if commercially viable, try and choose one with your most important phrase contained in it. Also, register the domain for a long initial period. This is so engines know you are not a SPAM site.
  • Mention your exact key phrases in the text of your site, adding them to headings, sub headings and body text if possible. We will advise on this.
  • By obtaining text hyperlinks from other sites that are relevant to your phrases, search engines will see your site as important e.g. if your phrase was "website designers in london" then a good link on their site would be "click here for website designers in london" (note: the link is on your phrase) placed on a web site whose text is describing in detail the subject of website designers in london.
  • Selecting sites to get text links from: Think laterally who could be encouraged to link to your site (suppliers , trade partners etc).
  • Discover which sites are linking to your top ranking competitors' web sites. You can find these in google by typing in the search box, their domain name in the following format: link: www.TheirDomainName.com
